I have driven other cars with electric that have similar problems and people complain saying its out of alignment. A dealer had not been notified of the failure. If it had done that at 55mph, it might have caused me to wreck! After diagnosis by a local mechanic. The best price I got to replace the steering rack is right around $2,000.00. I have taken my vehicle several times to the shop do to steering issues. I took it the nearest mechanic who then contacted Ford service to see if it was recalled due to this issue-nope. At 30,000 miles my entire steering failed driving about 5-8 mph. They changed the tie rods and still couldnt fix the issue. The steering shaft has two U joints, the one closest to the exhaust manifold siezed up making it almost impossible to steer, very dangerous when pulling a camper at highway speed to say the lease. Tire Dealer told him they have seen this before and the person had to have the whole front end replaced to fix it. When correcting to get back to center it would pull hard the other direction for no reason. Its even more excessive in 44. Before the steering went out i thought i was having an issue with the alignment. I am in my 70s and have driven many vehicles over my lifetime, and find this one horrible to attempt to control. No idea when they will get it in to do repair. It gone on for to long. Local dealer is not known to be very reliable on repairs????? I have 2016 f150 xlt 44 with twin turbos and honestly I love this truck, but I had my electric rack and pinion shut down on me this is the second time Ill be replacing my rack assembly since march. Long story short, im at 46k miles, ive had 11 alignments and been thru three sets of tires. Truck seems to want to float left or right when on the interstate-no wind. After each trunion is freed up, fill each one up with spray lithium grease.
